Hello, my name is Morio Snelling Sr., and I am the Director of Field Service for the Chickasaw Council Boy Scouts of America and serve as the Chief Operating Officer for the council.
Before being named COO in March of 2020, I was the Chickasaw Council’s Metro Field Director responsible for providing leadership to four professional staff members, overseeing district operations – including end-to-end management of the council’s membership plan, serving as the staff advisor to the Council Commissioner, in addition to the Vice President of Operations, and delivered recruitment support to all eight districts. I have led multiple successful Council Popcorn campaigns and played a key role in the continued development of the Friends of Scouting campaign and Special Event campaigns, ensuring revenue growth for the council’s budget.
I hold a Master of Arts in Human Resource Development from Webster University, and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, with over 25 years of experience in the field of non-profit work with multiple awards under my belt, including the Whitney M. Young Jr. Service Award, awarded by the Quapaw Area Council Boy Scouts of America.
I am inspired daily by my wife Maquitta of more than twenty years and our six children. In my free time, I like to rehearse music with my two boys (Morio & Myles) and attend my daughter Madison's soccer games and my son Myles's football games and wrestling matches. It is always a treat to talk law with my daughter Erin who is an attorney with the McCullough Law Firm, to learn about the latest counseling techniques from my daughter Ciara the psychologist, and hear about the funny things seven-year-old kids say and do from the teacher of the family Morgan.
I usually spend my leisure time watching sports or listening to music. My favorite sports are football, wrestling, golf, and track and field. My zeal for music gets its flair from my passion for playing the saxophone for more than forty years. I have played in the band since junior high school and was the drum major of my college marching band. Music helps me unwind and relax, as well as boosts my creativity and analytical thinking skills. When possible I actively volunteer with my fraternity Alpha Phi Alpha Inc. providing public service to the community.
My family and I look forward to becoming a part of the West Tennessee community.
